Can a person underage acting for law enforcement lie about their age when asked by a store clerk?

A cop can lie to a suspect when interrogating, but can a person acting as law enforcement, attempting to buy alcohol underage, lie to a store clerk? Acting as part of a bust. i.e. the under age person is sent into the store by the cops and the clerk asks if they’re 21 and the underage persons says yes, but doesn’t show any ID and the clerk sells it to them. Can the underage person lie when they are acting as part of law enforcement?

Of course. The underage person is an agent for the law enforcement department. Police officers and their agents are allowed to lie to further an investigation.

Absolutely. That’s what the undercover sting is about – finding clerks who are too lazy to verify the information and end up breaking the law.
